Before Alfred arrived, I wasn't sure how it would impact our lives and my relationship with Dan. Would we have time for one another anymore? How would we deal with less sleep? Would Dan bond with the baby?
I needn't have worried about any of these things.
Seeing Dan hold Alfred for the first time, put his first nappy on, choose his first outfit, my heart grew. The way he looked after Alfred and I in the first few weeks, making sure we had everything we needed during the eight hour long breastfeeds. The way he looked at Alfred as he slept. The way he wanted to push his pram every time we were out.
Seeing him become a father for the first time made me love him even more.
The lack of sleep was hard and the way we dealt with it wasn't always perfect, but we did it together. We are a team, we always were, but now more than ever. We get through all of the challenges as a strong unit.
As Alfred is getting older, it's wonderful to see their relationship growing and developing. Their bond is strong and they seem to have these inside jokes and go crazy chasing each other around the house.
I love watching them share experiences together - whether it's sharing apples (Dan doesn't have a choice on that one, the boy loves an apple), building blanket dens or going a bit mad throwing toys everywhere.
I am looking forward to seeing how their relationship builds and changes over the years, during the good times and the tougher times.
I know that Dan tries his absolute best when it comes to raising Alfred and for me that is enough. I am proud of the man and the father that my husband has become.
