I can't believe that I'm already almost 27 weeks pregnant and the third trimester is on the (very near) horizon. I say it every month, but this pregnancy is flying by so quickly. It really won't be long before we all get to meet her! I think I will do a third trimester blog post in the next couple of weeks, as I think it is about time I did a little update on here.
This time around, I have been nesting like absolute crazy - I can't stop collecting bits for the baby, organising furniture around the home and washing baby clothes.

I mean, it is quite intense. I feel a bit crazy if the house isn't tidy and I'm always reorganising the clothes drawers... I already have a big muslin blanket collection, that is still growing!
I keep getting a shock each time I look at the newborn clothes and booties - they are so tiny! I had completely forgotten just how tiny a brand new baby is, even though I was convinced that I wouldn't forget when Alfred was small.
Even Dan has caught the nesting bug - when he isn't working, you will find him doing various DIY jobs, gardening, cleaning the house and researching car seats. See the above photo for an example - that is what our downstairs looks like 97% of the time at the moment. Completely spotless. What is happening to us? Please tell me we are not the only ones. I suppose we should enjoy the cleanliness while we can, before Baby Girl arrives!
With everything that I have said about my (our) nesting, it's all the pretty stuff that I have been getting organised with... none of the really useful things have been bought yet. I thought it might be a bit overkill to get newborn nappies, wipes, breast pumps and the like just yet (although they are on my to-do list! One of my many to-do lists...)
One very useful thing I hadn't got around to buying yet was a new cot mattress for the baby. Luckily, Eve, a modern and innovative mattress brand, contacted me to see if I wanted to try one of their baby mattresses.
I was pretty excited about this, as I had heard about them via recommendations... I had thought about getting a mattress for myself and I hadn't realised that they also do cot mattresses and cot bed mattresses.
The mattress that was sent to me was the baby cot mattress (60 x 120 cm). It also comes in the slightly larger cot bed size (140 x 70 cm). Both mattresses are 12.5 cm deep to prevent dipping or sagging with use.
I am so excited for the new baby to use it, for many reasons! First of all, it's handcrafted in the UK and suitable from birth to six years.
The cover is created from innovative Cairfull® 3D fabric which is super soft, washable at 60°C and extremely breathable. It allows a free flow of air for a safer night’s sleep. It also comes with a waterproof panel which guards against leaks and spills. So it basically comes with a built in mattress protector, how efficient is that?!
The composition and tech behind the mattress is fab too - pocket springs provide great support for your child’s back, neck and head, whilst also providing air circulation and breathability. High density resilience foam surrounds the pocket springs and is quality assured for use in the nursery. It provides an extra layer of comfort and thickness and won’t dip or contour around your baby, making it extra safe!
A few wonderful extras - every baby mattress comes with a 5 year guarantee. If it fails during the warranty period, they will exchange it.
They will also deliver straight to your doorstep for free and as a bonus, will give you 30 nights to decide whether the mattress is right for you. If you decide you don't want the mattress, they will pick it up from you for free and fully refund you.
If all that wasn't brilliant enough, they are also donating 15% of profits from the eve baby mattress to The Lullaby Trust, which provides expert advice on safer sleeping for babies.
Also, I LOVE the yellow strip around the sides of their mattresses. It's such a happy colour and as soon as you see it, you know that the mattress is an Eve mattress. Smart branding.
I am so happy knowing that Baby Girl will be sleeping in a safe mattress, that is also very easy to keep clean. That's one less thing to worry about in my busy baby brain!
