I first saw Hannah on Instagram when I was heavily pregnant with Alfred. I started following her when I realised she was pregnant too and when I spotted how absolutely gorgeous her photos were, I was hooked! I have never met her in real life, but she is just so lovely and friendly.
I love how whimsical her photos are. Not to mention she takes the cutest pictures of Oscar! I think you will be in for a treat reading what she has to say about herself and her daily inspirations, so put a cuppa on and enjoy!
Hi! I'm Hannah, a mother of one - my 7 month old son Oscar, and wife to my University sweetheart Ben. I grew up in Cambridge but moved to Yorkshire 11 years ago, and currently live in York with my two boys. I'm passionate about my family; having Oscar has made me realise that it's the simple things that truly bring happiness, and I'm striving for a slightly slower pace of life. When I get treated to a bit of 'me time' I love to get lost in a little creativity, be it photography, knitting, calligraphy or faffing with flowers.
I always shoot in natural light and check where my light source is coming from. I don't think I have a particular shooting style, and like to have a variety of both bright, well-lit scenes and more moody frames, such as side-on lighting from a window indoors. My photos are part candid/spontaneous, and part styled or planned; something I hadn't ever done prior to joining Instagram but that I now love. I adored seeing pretty, whimsical scenes in other accounts that either told a story, or were purely for the aesthetic, and was inspired to try my own styled shots.
Like many, I had an account that was largely inactive for a couple of years, and didn't really understand Instagram! I started posting regularly when I became pregnant, and the first feeds that I loved to follow were those of mainly other expecting or new mamas. I was inspired by these accounts and trying to create a similarly beautiful feed of my own became my creative outlet. Over time, friendships developed and the sense of community and sisterhood is one of my favourite things about Instagram, and one that I never expected. Other social media platforms seem to carry with them a generous dose of competition and even bitchiness, but the opposite seems to be the case with Instagram. I really struggled with being a new mother at times, and each occasion that I went out on a limb and admitted that I was floundering, I would be overwhelmed with comments of support from other mamas. I feel so lucky to be part of such a positive community; I'd even go as far as to say that without Instagram, my journey as a brand new mother would have been very different.
My Instagram feed really is a reflection of my personality, in that I struggle to stick to a common subject or source of inspiration! I tend to photograph anything that draws my attention, however my greatest source of inspiration is undoubtedly my little muse, Oscar.
Thank you Hannah! What a wonderful insight and such gorgeous photos.
