I felt very strange on the day of Alfred's first birthday. I kept getting flashbacks of the atmospheres around the day of his birth, a year ago. The night before, at about 10pm, I thought to myself "this is about the time we drove to the maternity ward" and that morning at 11am, I thought "this is the moment I saw you for the first time". I kept remembering little details from that day and wanted to hang onto the memories for a little longer.
We wanted to keep Alfred's birthday low key this year, as he is still so small and wouldn't remember it, but it still felt so significant to me.
We kept it simple and had biscuits for breakfast and after Alfred's nap, we went to the park in the afternoon.
Alfred really loved his biscuits from Lady Bakewell Park! As soon as we put the plate down, he dove straight in there.
Yes, some of the biscuits say "it's Porridge's birthday" - we couldn't decide what to name him after he was born, so for two whole weeks he was called Porridge! It felt wrong to not include the nickname in his biscuit messages.
We stopped to get fish and chips for lunch. I'm not sure what Alfred made of his chip, he ended up feeding it to the Starlings.
We had such a fun time at the park, as Alfred is now at an age where he can get stuck into everything. As soon as we got him out of the pushchair, he was off!
After we tired of the park, we decided to get some desert and Alfred tried his first ever ice cream cone.
He only woke up once that night, which for him is a record, so I will take that as a sign that he has a fun filled and exhausting day!
